Native Americans
Over the course of the expedition Lewis and Clark encountered over 50 Native American tribes. When they met each of these tribes they developed a type of ritual. The expedition would explain to the Indians that the land they they lived on now belonged to the United States. Also that a man far east, Thomas Jefferson, was there new "great father". Also the expedition would give the Indians gifts and throw a parade shooting guns and marching in uniform. The Native Americans aslo helped the expedition gather scientific information such as the migration of animals. Also the Indians helped Lewis and Clark determine river routes and survival skills.
